"The Bon deity, Sherab Chamma, also called "Thugje Chamma" in Tibetan or the Loving Mother of Compassion is considered to be the mother of all buddhas … she represents the “perfection of wisdom” … in Tazig language, Sherab Chamma was known as the ancient Iranian (Aryan) goddess Anahita … Tazig Language is "New Persian" post-9th c. as designated by Iranian Sogdians in Central Asia (in comparison to Middle Persian or Pahlavi spoken pre-9th c. and first brutal Islamic invasion of Iran – the second devastating invasion was in 1979)…".....The Official Site of Sheda Vasseghi....May 5, 2013

"Sherab Chamma (Anahita) holds a gold swastika (Indo-European & Aryan symbol for wheel of life ... not to be confused with modern Western propaganda under one of its political destructive forms called Nazism) and a golden vase along with a lotus (fleur-de-lis as seen among ancient Iranian symbols since beginning of history) … Sherab Chamma (Anahita) is a meditational divinity and a protector … she roots out “the three poisons of greed, anger and delusion” (Aryan beliefs were based on shedding negativity or falsehoods or lies – that is, in abstract format, and not imagined angels & demons as interpreted and adopted later by Semitic views in the Judeo-Christian-Islamic trilogy) … flames of fire representing wisdom surround the goddess (hence, ancient Iranians revered fire as a tool in seeing the Truth … they were not fire-worshipers as often misrepresented again by the Semitic point of view to a point that even some modern Iranians converted to a Semitic belief generations ago think their ancestors worshiped the element of fire!!!)… ".....The Official Site of Sheda Vasseghi....May 5, 2013

In the Zhangzhung language, Sherab Chamma is known as Satrig Ersang, sa trig meaning "wisdom." In the Tazig language of ancient Central Asia she is Ardvishura Anahita. In the Srid pa mdzod phug, the Bonpo Abhidharma text dealing with cosmogony, theogony, and cosmology, with an appended commentary by Dranpa Namkha of Zhanzhung."...http://bon-encyclopedia.wikispaces.com/Sherab+Chamma

Sherab Chamma (Byams ma) "the Loving Lady", ist he chief manifestation of Satrig Ersang. Her name derives from cham (byams), "to love tenderly", to which is added the feminine suffixe ma.".....Per Kvaerne, The Bon Religion of Tibet, p. 28)
In the Bon pantheon, Chamma is considered as one of the "four principal sugatas," also known as the four peacefull deitys, who stimulate and superintend the spiritual evolution of the human race. They are:
Sherab Chamma, the Perfection of Wisdom
Shenlha Okar, the sambhogakaya Buddha
Sangpo Bumtri, the creator deity
Shenrab Miwoche, the nirmanakaya or teacher

She is called "queen of the waters" because of her origin: As the winds of karma blew across the vast primeval ocean, moving its waters, a bubble the size of a pavilion rose up to the surface, and at its center an egg of blue light became visible. When this egg burst open, a turquoise-blue woman appeared from it. The creator god Sangpo Bumtri was overwhelmed by her beauty and radiance. He called her "queen of the waters" and coupled with her.

Sherab Chamma Mantra:
"OM MA WA MA TE MA HI MO HA E MA HO MA YE RU PA YE TA DHU DHU SO HA!"

Sherab Chenma, loving Mother of Wisdom, is another of those goddesses, equally being honoured in Tibetan Buddhism and in the Yungdrung Tradition of Bon. In Tibetan Buddhism She is the Loving Mother of Wisdom – Sherab Chenma and the Loving Mother of Compassion – Thugje Chamma.....In the Yungdrung Bon lineage one of Her names is Gyalyum or Rgyal Yum, the Mother of Buddhas. In the Buddhist tradition of India Chamma becomes "Tara, the Liberator" or "Prajnaparamita," the latter meaning "all- embracing, all pervading Wisdom."

"Anahita was the female protectress of Balkh, Anahita goddess of the Oxus, in Alexander’s day. Anahita’s magnificent gilded statue had been gifted by one of Darius’s predecessors, Artaxerxes II.... ‘High girdled one clad in a mantle of gold, on her head a golden crown with rays of light and a hundred stars clad in a robe of over thirty otter skins of shining fur’….There is a long-standing tradition that an ancient shrine of Anahita was to be found here, a temple so rich it invited plunder....Another source of spiritual home that made Bactria sacred was a great temple of the ancient Iranian goddess, Anahit (in Pahlavi or Middle-Persian) and Anahita (Ânâhitâ) in the Avesta hymns. The temple was so rich that often it attracted the needy Syrian kings who sat out to plunder it. In her name and honor, in Armenia, girls prostituted themselves. Anaitis was a Scythian goddess, but she is identified also as Assyrian Mylitta, the Arabian Alytta and the Greek Venus Urania. Artaxerxes Mnemon, one of the emperors of Achaemenid dynasty was among her devotees. She is also associated with the Persian Mithra. Her association with Zoroaster adds to her popularity.".....http://www.cais-soas.com/CAIS/Geography/balkh.htm

"Anahita is the Old Persian form of the name of an Iranian goddess and appears in complete and earlier form as Aredvi Sura Anahita (Arədvī Sūrā Anāhitā); the Avestan language name of an Indo-Iranian cosmological figure venerated as the divinity of 'the Waters' (Aban) and hence associated with fertility, healing and wisdom. Aredvi Sura Anahita is Ardwisur Anahid or Nahid in Middle- and Modern Persian, Anahit or Anaheed in Armenian. An iconic shrine cult of Aredvi Sura Anahita, was – together with other shrine cults – "introduced apparently in the 4th century BC and lasted until it was suppressed in the wake of an iconoclastic movement under the Sassanids."...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anahita

"As a divinity of the waters (Abān), the yazata is of Indo-Iranian origin, according to Lommel related to Sanskrit Sarasvatī that, like its Proto-Iranian equivalent *Harahvatī, derives from Indo-Iranian *Saraswṇtī..... In its old Iranian form *Harahvatī, "her name was given to the region, rich in rivers, whose modern capital is Kandahar, Afghanistan... (Avestan Haraxvaitī, Old Persian Hara(h)uvati-, Greek Arachosia)."..... "Like the Indian Saraswati, [Aredvi Sura Anahita] nurtures crops and herds; and is hailed both as a divinity and the mythical river that she personifies, 'as great in bigness as all these waters which flow forth upon the earth'.".......http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anahita

In Bon Chamma is one of the "Four Main Sugatas," which means that She belongs to those four "Peaceful Deities," who guide the spiritual development of humankind. A Bonpo text gives Chamma the title "Queen of Waters," ....Chamma's mythology tells that She appeared in a blue bubble of the size of a pavillon above the water´s surface when the winds of karma blew above the world sea. An egg of blue light was inside the bubble. When the egg burst open, the Goddess appeared as the Blue Turquoise Woman, who with Her beauty charmed Sangpo Bumtri, the God of Creation, so that he called Her "Queen of Waters" and united with Her.

The four Sugatas are Sherab Chamma, perfection of wisdom; Shenlha Oekar, god of wisdom or Sambhogakaya Buddha. Sambhogakaya symbolizes the Buddha-activity of the higher Boddhisattvas. He often is described as „life-giving“, because he is the one, inspiring the desire for attaining Buddha-nature in all living beings.Sangpo Bumtri, god of creation, also called Srid pa, and Shenrab Miwo, the world´s teacher or Nirmanakaya Buddha.

"The cult of the goddess extended all the way from the borders of China to the ancient Near East and the Mediterranean coast, where in Greco-Roman times she was variously identified with Ishtat, Isis, Aphrodite, and Urania.....The cult of the mother tantras is believed by the Bonpos to have been transmitted to humans by Tibetan Bon teacher Zangsa Ringtsun., a manifestation of Satrig Ersang. Bon literature on Chamma is extensive. Volume three of the bKa' 'gyur rgyud sde'i skor is dedicated to ritual sadhana materials on her, where her basic mandala is described. She can assume a fivefold form and also, like the Buddhist Tara, an eightfold form, each form banishing fear of a particular danger.".....http://bon-encyclopedia.wikispaces.com/Sherab+Chamma

".... four companions of her mandala: In the east, from the heavenly field Ngöntog Zhing appears the Great Mother Tabchen Derdrolma; in the north, from the heaven Namdag Zhingkham is the Great Mother Namkha Dzödzinma ; in the west, from the field Köpai Zhingkham comes the Great Mother Tugje Chamma who is red in color (above right); in the south appears the Great Mother Natsog Kundragma from the paradise called Gegye Zhingkham."

"The words sūra and anāhīta are generic Avestan language adjectives, and respectively mean "mighty" and "pure" (or "immaculate"). Both adjectives also appear as epithets of other divinities or divine concepts such as Haoma and the Fravashis. Both adjectives are also attested in Vedic Sanskrit.".....Boyce, Mary (1983), "Anāhīd", Encyclopædia Iranica, 1, New York: Routledge & Kegan Paul, pp. 1003–1009

"The Aban Yasht, mostly in a very epical in style, has its roots deep in the pre-Zarathushtrian Aryan cult, which had, among other gods and goddesses, its male and female water deities. It presents Aredvi Sûrâ Anâhitâ, a specific river and a specific goddess. Grammatically the first word "Aredvi" is the name and the two following are the epithets. Again, since grammatically "water" is feminine in gender, the name and the two epithets are also feminine. ....The secondary meaning of "anâhitâ" as "undefiled" .... .....The Aredvi River... flows down with mighty volume from Mount Hukairya to the Vouru-kasha Sea....Several rivers of the Central Asia could be Aredvi. It could be Oxus, modern Amu Darya. It rises from the Pamirs and today flows into Lake Ural. But once, it poured into the Caspian Sea.....The odds are in favor of the Amu Darya, a river where the Indo-Iranians lived together before moving southward to split into two. There is a possibility that the upper roaring part of the river was called Aredvi and the lower lake-full as Harakhvaiti. The Avestan people, moving in almost the same terrain, retained the memory better and later applied her names to other prominent rivers along which they settled in due course. And for the early inland Aryan settlers, the Caspian was "Vouru-kasha," quite the "broad-shore" sea.".....http://www.zoroastrian.org.uk
